WORKFLOW ESSENTIALS · BUYING CHECKLIST

A useful desk starts with the right connections

Tech2Apple editorial · Source-based guide · Updated October 2026

Before buying an accessory, write down what it needs to connect and what you want it to do. A connector’s shape alone does not tell you its capabilities.

A dock that fits your workflow

List your computer’s exact model, the displays you want to use, their resolution and refresh rate, and your other peripherals. Verify the computer’s supported display configuration and the dock manufacturer’s compatibility table. Check whether a solution requires additional software.

Storage for a purpose

Separate working storage from backup storage. Check the enclosure interface, cable specification, and the bandwidth of the port you will use. A faster advertised drive will not remove a slower connection’s limit.

Charging without surprises

Check the power requirements of the computer or phone, the charger’s output per port, and the cable rating. Multi-port chargers may divide power differently when another device is connected.
